the new direction
Havn't spoken to maciej in a few days but the last time we spoke we discussed changing the direction of the project to a slightly more abstract one. We looked at alot of swatch adverts and (aside from the live action ones) found that the animation they made was more abstract, making use of simple shapes and basic coulour schemes, often in moving kaleidascope pattern. (I will put up some of these adverts in teh next post). We decided that something slightly more within this area of visual style would be more appropriate and maybe easier to accomplish. Then again we still want to use the basic idea of a race. We decided that it may be good to make it in the stlye of a computer game, with start menus and scoreboards at the end, witht the one who is wearing the snow goggles coming out on top. From there we decided that we could use our skills well if we did a 2d pixelated/8 bit video game style animation....

Some research...
this is a video I stitched together of the work that The Designer's Rebublic did for the wipeout series. As I will mention in the next post our ideas have taken a slightly different turn. I really like some of the visuals in this video, with emphasis on the first half. The logo design and animation is second to none in slickness, and the mix of 2D layered on top of 3D visualisations is niiice. It would be great if we could employ some elements from this kind of stlye into our advert. As I said I will explain in next post our direction wich we have taken...

005.
Tuesday 22nd
Today we agreed on a basic idea to start working on. We have established that me (Bartholomew) and Stanislav will start with storyboarding a backgrounds (respectively), to get an idea for a basic visual style and a basic blockout within the 30 second timescale.
The IDEA:
-A race down a ski slope on a swiss mountain
-1 guy with swatch gogles and 1 with normal goggles
-the race intesifies over time and in a crecendo of speed and action
-(music?)
- there is then the climax where the guy without the swatch goggles crashes into a tree/wall/barrier of some sort
-as he falls away there are words left in the snow imprint which we will decide on a little later...something like "should've worn swatch"
-the advert will then finish with a 3d visual of the goggles to re-establish focus on the product in the minds of the viewers.
this is a preliminary idea so if it doesnt work out, or seem possible after an initial bit of work, we may change to another as we have a few possibilities.
We have established that the visual style will most probably be 2d as we dont have the recources to do this in live action, and we are both more proficient in 2d than in 3d, therefore we will use our strengths to our advantage...
